Veterans Education Benefits

Kenai Peninsula College would like to thank you for your time in service and for the commitment and sacrifice that you have shown to our country. Know we appreciate all that you have done and look forward to working with you as you further pursue your education.

KPC students utilizing Veterans Education Benefits will have their courses certified through the UAA Office of Military and Veteran Services. Veterans and military students may contact the KPC Financial Aid Office for assistance or reach out to their School Certifying Officials at UAA Military and Veteran Student Services.


  • New Students

    Checklist for those using Veteran Education Benefits for the first time. For more general information and details, see the UAA Veteran Education Benefits page.


    1. Apply for benefits.

    Apply for Education Benefits through How to Apply for the GI Bill® to activate your educational benefits with the VA.


    2. Apply for admission to KPC.

    Apply for admission to Kenai Peninsula College to be a degree-seeking student. The VA requires that students actively pursue a degree to utilize VA educational benefits. 


    3. Submit your transcript(s).

    Submit required transcripts for admissions to KPC Admissions & Registration. To submit military transcripts, please refer to the Military Credit information.


    4. Register for classes.

    Register for class using UAOnline. Remember, only the courses that are applicable to your degree program can be certified for VA benefits. 

    It is highly suggested that you work with an academic advisor and refer to Degree Works to confirm that courses are applicable to your degree program.


    5. Request certification.

    Complete the Education Benefit Certification Request. This must be submitted each semester. Do not submit this form until you have completed your registration.


    6. Submit a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility to UAA.

    Submit a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the VA. You can be certified without this document. However, it will remain a requirement until received. (Exceptions apply to Chapter 35 beneficiaries.) Please note for Chapter 33 beneficiaries: financial aid disbursements may be effected without a COE on file.


    7. Maximize all funding resources.

    You are strongly encouraged to complete the FAFSA application for federal financial aid in order to find more opportunities for funding but it is not required. You can also explore scholarship opportunities through the KPC Financial Aid Office.

    8. Check your preferred and UAA email frequently.

    Confirmation of certifications, issues with course applicability, and other important, time sensitive information will be sent to your preferred and University of Alaska email addresses only.

  • Returning Students

    Checklist for current students using Veteran education benefits to complete each semester. For more general information and details, see the Veteran Education Benefits page.


    1. Register for classes.

    Register for class using UAOnline. Remember, only the courses that are applicable to your degree program can be certified for VA benefits.

  • Transfer Students

    Checklist for those transferring to UAA and using Veteran Education Benefits. For more general information and details, see the Veteran Education Benefits page.

    1. Apply for admission to KPC.

    Apply for admission to Kenai Peninsula College to be a degree-seeking student. The VA requires that students actively pursue a degree to utilize VA educational benefits. UAA is only able to certify a student as non-matriculated pending final admission in the university for two terms. The VA defines a term as courses that have different start/stop dates.


    2. Submit your transcript(s).

    Submit required transcripts for admissions to KPC Admissions & Registration. To submit military transcripts, please refer to the Military Credit information.


    3. Request change of place of training for your VA educational benefits.

    Submit one of the following forms either directly to the UAA MVSS team or complete the form electronically through How to Apply for the GI Bill®. If you complete the form electronically, please submit a confirmation page to the UAA MVSS office.

    • Veterans and Service Members: Complete VA 22-1995.
    • Dependents using Chapter 35 DEA benefits and those using Chapter 33 Post 9/11 GI Bill® transferred benefits: Complete VA 22-5495.


    4. Request certification.

    Complete the Education Benefit Certification Request. This must be submitted each semester. Do not submit this form until you have completed your registration.

Roe, M.D. Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020 requires educational institutions to make certain disclosures to students using federal military and/or VA education benefits. You may be eligible for federal and state grants, needs-based scholarships or low interest student loan offers.
