ABE includes basic skills refresher courses that are free and participants can register at any time. KPC sites include Kenai River Campus Learning Center (Soldotna), and the KBC Alaska Adult Education/GED Testing (Homer).
Students can upgrade skills for personal or employment needs. Traditional subjects include math, reading, writing, social studies, science, life skills, computer literacy and career/job and college readiness skills.
Adult Basic Education also includes GED preparation and testing, English as a Second Language instruction, and literacy training.
The GED is a diploma by examination issued by the Department of Labor and Workforce Development. It's a 4-subject test (language arts, social studies, science, and math), typically not taken all at once.
Applicants must be at least 16 years old. Students under 18 must submit a signed parent or guardian permission form and an official school withdrawal form before going through the GED Orientation.
GED testing is available in-person and online. For more information about the Adult Ed Program or GED testing at the Kenai River Campus please call the Learning Center at 907-262-0327.
KPC Learning Centers provide ESL instruction for non-native speakers of English who have a serious desire to improve their language skills. Students learn English for daily communication and work. Reading skills are not a requirement for these classes. These courses are free and participants can register anytime.
The Learning Center has several options for students needing some assistance with writing and math both virtually and in person. For more information see the links below to the Math Lab and Writing Lab.
